Calgara and Noland! Best Friends

Calgara and Noland come to Extra Island! Have you had a chance to take them on yet? This time, we are bringing you information for the hardest difficulty, Calgara and Noland! Best Friends!

Bombs Away!

Bombs Away!

Bombs Away!

This quest introduces the [BOMB] slot (at a high rate!), and just by the name, you know it can’t be good. As scared as we were, we decided to tough it out and started the quest. One thing to keep in mind in this quest is that you can’t charge your Specials when the enemy performs a preemptive attack.

Noland the Explorer comes to greet us in Battle 1. Although, we don’t fight him yet here. He just comes to tell us that the Great Warrior of Shandora, Calgara, is the one who planted all the bombs.

Battle 1

By the way, the new [BOMB] slot explanation only happens in Rookie and Veteran difficulties. So if you don’t know how they work you might want to go and try one of those first.

One thing we learned is that with a Perfect or Miss, the bombs wont do anything. Get a Good or Great and the bombs will roll over and explode at your feet. They do about 1/10th of your HP in damage, meaning that if you mess up 10 times, you’re done for!

Careful with your tap-timing!

Sub-Boss Noland and Rare-Boss Calgara

You don’t really know when he will appear, but Noland will come at some point as a Sub-Boss. His preemptive attack, Commander’s Strike will hit your group for 2200 DMG. His normal attack will do around 5000 DMG to your HP every two turns. Quite the tough guy for an explorer! We can’t waste any time, so let’s defeat him as quick as possible!

Here's Noland!

Here’s Noland!

If you let Noland get a turn in when he is nearing death, he’ll pull off his Commander’s Drive: Can’t be KO’d for 2 Turns! We can’t let this happen, so let’s try to take him out as quick as possible!

He can't be defeated for two turns!

When Calgara Comes

The moment Calgara comes, he’ll pull off a Slot Sweep![BOMB]. Hey Calgara! Don’t you know that bombs are forbidden on Extra Island?!

The Great Warrior

The Great Warrior

Hitting Perfects is not really our strong point, so we went with all Misses to avoid the bombs. Calgara hit us for a whopping 7000 DMG and it was pretty apparent that we wouldn’t win this one. For those of you are skilled at tap-timing, now is the time to prove yourself!

Outrageous DMG in one blow!

Outrageous DMG in one blow!

Calgara only attacks once every three turns, so let’s pray for [RCV] slots and heal as much as we can during that time.

We’ve reached Battle 7 and we’re immediately hit with a preemptive Slot Sweep!, changing all of our slots to [RCV]/[BOMB]s! If you’re lucky here, as we were, you’ll get lots of meat! We healed with Hot Rock Stew : Party and launched Conqueror’s Haki, dealing quite a good amount of DMG. Things were looking up for us, but we couldn’t let our guard down just yet!

Battle 7

Battle 7

We took quite a big chunk out of Noland’s HP and delayed his turn with Fire Bird Star. Victory was in our sights and we were sure to win! That was until…

Bird Star for the win?!

Bird Star for the win?!?!

Noland activates his Special, Botanist’s Discovery when he loses around half of his HP. He cancelled out our Fire Bird Star and shortened his attack interval. He now attacks every turn!

Botanist’s Discovery

Botanist’s Discovery

In a panic, we did everything we could to get that last bit of life off of Noland but his Commander’s Drive gave his attacks the boost they needed to put us away for good.

And we were so close...

And we were so close…

Our PSY-Type Crew

We went into the battle blindy and got thrown around pretty badly. But we learned from our mistakes and this is the crew we came up with!

Our PSY-Type Crew

Our PSY-Type Crew

We went with Garp the Fist for our Captain and Red-Haired Shanks for our Friend Captain. Put both of their Captain Abilities together and PSY types get double the HP as well as a 5X boost to ATK. Plus, with Garp’s Meteor Fist Shower, we can defend ourselves from those nasty [BOMB] slots! To delay Noland’s turn, we put in Sogeking for his Fire Bird Star. We want Noland to use his Botanist’s Discovery as soon as possible so we can activate our Fire Bird Star, so we need to get his health down fast. To do so, we put in Mr. 2 Bon Clay Bombardier Arabesque and Petty Officer Coby. The combination of their Specials will put our slots in order to deal some pretty mean damage. Finally, Roger Pirate ShanksLightspeed Flash will boost our PSY crew’s attack even more, so we put him in too. Just be careful when you activate it, because Botanist’s discovery will cancel the effect of that too!

Let’s set off to recruit the Great Warrior and the Famous Explorer!

First things first, let’s charge our Specials to get ready for the Boss fight!

Chargin' up!

Chargin’ up!

We’re faced with a number of Penguins, Turtles, and Crabs along the way, so we shouldn’t have much trouble charging our Specials. Although, let’s keep a good eye on our HP and not let it get too low!

Keep your eyes on your HP!

Reunite with Noland!

It’s time to take on Noland!

Revenge!

Revenge!

Our goal here is to get Noland’s health below half as fast as possible, so let’s attack with all our strength here. You can use Meteor Fist Shower if you need to get your slots right.

Don't hold back!

Don’t hold back!

We were lucky enough here to get our [PSY] slots in place so we didn’t need to rely on Meteor Fist Shower. We got Noland to use his Botanist’s Discovery, and it was time for Fire Bird Star!

Delay after Botanist's Discovery

Delay after Botanist’s Discovery

Everything went according to plan and we got our Delay off right! We thought Noland might surprise us with a cut-in action when nearing death, but that wasn’t the case and we finished him off nicely!

Noland's a goner!

We managed to recruit Noland!

And proof of our victory, the Great Warrior title!

There are a few other crews that you could put together to clear this quest. Calgara took quite some time with the PSY type crew we used, so a QCK/PSY combo crew with Boa Hancock Warlord of the Sea and Marco the Phoenix Whitebeard 1st Div. Commander as Captains might pick up the pace! You might even be able to grind the quest with this crew! Try different combinations and see what you can come up with!
