Clash!! Blackbeard!

For 24 hours only, Clash!! with Blackbeard on Extra Island! Have you faced the darkness yet?

This time we’re bringing you a strategy to help you beat Clash!! Blackbeard on the toughest difficulty, Pitch Black.

Hello, darkness…

We always know we’re in for a tough fight when it comes to a Clash!!, but we weren’t sure exactly what we were in for this time. So, we decided to jump right in and see what we were up against. Since we were going in blind, we just threw together a crew with some good stats and powerful specials.

More than just Immunity…!

We had a bit of a bad feeling about this to start with, and it turns out we were right. Blackbeard has Immunity, so status effects like slowing him down aren’t going to work. That wasn’t the worst of it, though! He started out the fight by Binding one of our crew members for 25 turns! Can we still win this one man short?

Immunity + a Bind Random on the bottom row!

Ze ha ha ha!

Blackbeard is going to deal us around 6,000 damage every two turns. That’s not especially bad compared to some of the bosses we’ve faced up until this point, but we’ve got ourselves into a bit of a bind and things were starting to look bad for us. We’d planned to use Alvida’s Special, Slip-Slip Tracks in just such a situation, blocking 80% of the damage and giving ourselves a little breathing room, but then, tragedy struck! Blackbeard used Dark Vortex to blow away the boost to our defense!

Dark Vortex!

Dark Vortex!

For a while we thought we’d never think of a plan to deal with this, but after a lot of trial and error, we got a few ideas and started to get our thoughts sorted out. First of all, the Immunity lasts for 999 turns, so we’re pretty obviously going to have to give up on Slowing him. Buffing our own crew results in getting hit with Dark Vortex immediately after, so that’s off the table, too. The good news is that Blackbeard’s attack pattern of attacking every two turns for approximately 6,000 damage doesn’t seem to change when he gets down to low HP.

With all of that in mind, we came up with the following crew:

A crew focused on Recovery

Heal thyselves.

Heal thyselves.

For this crew, Captain and Friend Captain will both be Capone ‘Gang’ Bege. With both of their Captain Abilities, we’ll be able to quadruple our RCV! To get the most out of this we’re making sure to choose mostly characters with high RCV or recovery-based Specials! This time we’re planning to win by simply staying in the game!

The crewmember who’s going to be key to our strategy this time is Johnny. If we make sure his Special, [RCV] Slot Storm is levelled enough that we can use it within 10 turns, the Capones’ abilities will make sure we get a huge boost out of it! Tashigi Navy HQ Ensign also has high RCV, so we’re definitely going to want to include her, or another high-RCV character like Humming Brook.

For the last two characters, we’re going to add Emporio Ivankov and Massacre Soldier Killer. Ivankov’s Hellwink is going to work very well with Capone’s Gang Fortress. That’ll be useful in striking the final blow once we have Blackbeard down to his last legs. Killer is the odd man out as far as RCV goes, but his Special should also prove useful, as long as we watch our timing.

Getting to the Boss

We’re going to be relying on our Specials for recovery, so it’s important that we make sure to have everything charged up. With our current crew we should be getting about **** HP per Meat, so it’s going to be important to be aware of our enemies’ ATK power and hold onto a couple [RCV] slots whenever necessary.

For Battle #1, leave one of the ensigns (we got a DEX Ensign, but sometimes there’s a QCK) for last, and take out everyone else. He’s got a long attack interval, so if you get some meat, you should be able to buy yourself a few turns here.

Battle #1

Battle #1

Battle #4 has some enemies that might give us some problems. If you find yourself losing too much HP, you can go ahead and use your first [RCV] Slot Storm in this battle.

Battle #4

Battle #4

Can you stand against the Darkness?!

Right at the start of the battle, Blackbeard Binds Ivankov, but we’ve already planned for this. Both Ivan and Killer aren’t going to come into the fight until the end, so we put them in the bottom row. Whichever one of them gets hit with Bind, we were prepared to deal.

Ivan and Killer will take the bottom row positions.

Ivan and Killer will take the bottom row positions.

As for the rest of the crew, we’re just going to have to keep ourselves healed up until Bind wears off! Don’t miss a chance to heal yourself in this battle, even if it means hitting Blackbeard for less damage. If you’re already at full HP, leave those [RCV] slots for the next time. If you’re still hurting for [RCV] slots after all of that, then go ahead and use Jonny’s Special again!

25 turns of pitched battle.

25 turns of pitched battle.

When you knock Blackbeard below 50% HP, Black Vortex is going to start hitting us with Despair as well as erasing buffs. From now on, be careful not to use your [RCV] slots while Despair is in effect. Wait until the next turn.

Despair.

Despair.

After 25 long turns, our moment has finally come! Ivan is free of his chains and our Captains are free of Despair. Of course, our HP is also over 9,000 from the RCV slots we’ve been making sure to grab. Now, after the next time he hits us with Black Hole for a lot of damage, it’s time to use Killer’s special, Massacre Soldier to strike back!

Here’s where we’d use Hellwink, but we already had a lot of [DEX] and [QCK] slots, ourselves, so we went ahead and used Capone’s Gang Fortress to give ourselves even more [QCK] slots! With that, we were able to deal a ton of damage and take out Blackbeard, once and for all!

Victory!

Our victory is nigh!

We Recruited Marshall D. Teach and got a new title, Darkness!

Got a new Title!

Got a new Title!

There are probably a lot of other crews you could use to defeat Blackbeard. If you want to stick with QCK types and boosting RCV, Boa Hancock is another good choice for your crew. Try a bunch of different combinations, and find the one that works best for you!
