Clash!! Duval: Rage

For 24 hours only, Clash!! Duval on Extra Island! Have you taken him on yet?
Today we’ll be bringing you a strategy to defeat Duval on Master difficulty, Clash!! Duval: Rage.

A STR-Type Crew for our Dex-Type Duval

After playing on Expert difficulty we really didn’t think much of Duval and honestly thought he’d be a push-over. Unfortunately for us, that wasn’t the case! Duval’s strength and varied abilities really gave us a run for our money and had us losing much more than we would have liked. But we didn’t give up! We got enough information to put a great crew together so here it is!

Our STR-Type Crew

Our STR-Type Crew

For both our captains we chose Bartholomew Kuma Warlord of the Sea. With two Kumas we get a 4x boost in ATK and HP, giving us just the strength and endurance we need for the battles ahead! With Marco the Phoenix‘s Blue Flame Rebirth Special, we get the chance to fully refill our HP, allowing for some leeway during the fight against Duval. For the rest of our crew, we added Arlong Sun Pirates to boost the effects of slots for two turns, Rob Lucci: Six Powers Cipher Pol No. 9 to change our slots up as well as halve enemy DEF, and just to play on the safe side we added Absalom of the Graveyard to halve taken damage as well as double RCV recovery. With this solid STR-Type line-up of characters we really shouldn’t have too much of a problem as long as we don’t let our Captain Abilities get bound!

Charge your Specials and Conserve your HP!

What we are aiming to do here in Battle 1 is not take any damage from the enemy while charging our Specials as much as we can. Those goons from Water Seven are back and equipped with the same annoying skills as before. Prepare to have your slots changed and Captain Abilities rendered useless. Their ATK is pretty high too. What an annoying bunch!

Aim for a Flawless Victory!

Aim for a Flawless Victory!

Out of all of the battles in this Clash!!, Battle 2 is the one where we can charge our Specials the most! The Auto-Target here tends to forget that we want to take out the quicker enemies first, so make sure you’re targeting your enemies manually here. Take a hit from the lobster and charge your Specials. Kuma and Marco both have low combo hits, so by attacking the lobster with one of them you can charge your Specials for up to 8 turns here!

Lobster's on the menu tonight!

Lobster’s on the menu tonight!

What we need to watch out for in Battle 3 is the dreaded Sea Stallion. Let him get a turn in and he’ll bind one of your crew members for 6 turns, so let’s not let that happen! And please be warned, the penguin in the back will use Penguin Super DEF!, greatly boosting all enemies’ DEF. What would be the best thing for us in this battle is to not get hit like in Battle 1, but those annoying Street Punks will mix up our slots making things harder for us! Let’s watch the enemy here and see if we can slip by unscathed!

Damn your binding AND your DEF boosting!

Damn your binding AND your DEF boosting!

Mid-Boss Iron Mask Duval

Iron Mask Duval comes at us in Battle 4 as the Clash!! Mid-Boss. He’ll use a preemptive Poison Needle of Hate! sweeping all our slots to BLOCK and poisoning us for 15 turns. Poison does about 100 damage to each crew member, so were looking at a total of 600 HP loss each! Plus, the Street Punks in the back will bind your Captain Abilities for 1 turn each. Let’s just get Marco’s Special charged and work on getting the enemy numbers down while healing with RCV!

Stand your ground, men!

Stand your ground, men!

When Duval’s HP goes below half, he’ll cut-in with a Now ah’m real mad!! boosting his ATK and lowering turns between attacks. The ATK boost only lasts for one turn and that’s great and all, but he activates it every turn! Just do as much damage as him as you can before he can get a hit on you and he should go down as planned.

Please keep your mask on Duval. Ew.

Please keep your mask on Duval. Ew.

Time to Clash!! with Duval!

Battle 5

Battle 5

We’ve made it to the last battle and it’s time to take on Duval! The Iron Mask-less Duval allows us to see exactly how angry this guy is and he makes it apparent even more so by his preemptive attack. He’ll bind your Captains for one turn and raise his gang member’s DEF pretty high. He’ll also hit you for around 5150 damage greatly reducing your HP!

That's cheap Duval. Real cheap.

That’s cheap Duval. Real cheap.

Just to add to the mess of things, those PSY-Type Street Punks behind Duval will replenish all enemies HP every 3 turns after their first turn. If our Captain Abilities aren’t sealed, then we want to use Absalom’s Clear-Clear Fruit here and work on sending all of Duval’s gangsters flying!

Dispose of those Gangsters!

Dispose of those Gangsters!

We just barely finished charging Marco’s Special! Let’s not waste any time, recover fully, and start our counter-attack! When Duval’s Health drops to around 70% he’ll boost his ATK and shorten his turn interval with Now ah’m SUPER mad!!, as well as binding three of your crew for 1 turn. Plan your attacks right, this isn’t going to be easy.

Full Recovery and Counter-Attack!

Full Recovery and Counter-Attack!

After Duval gets angry, it’s a race with time! His attacks can do around 10000 damage each turn so we really only have about four turns to act! Let’s use Kuma’s Special, change up our slots, and get Duval’s HP down as far as we can!

Let it go Duval. Just let it go.

Let it go Duval. Just let it go.

Whether you’re laughing or whether you’re crying, it’s time for our final turn. Activate Lucci and Arlong’s Specials and get ready to deal the final few blows. It will be kind of a gamble with Lucci’s slot changing, so if you’re not lucky here there is a chance you may witness the dreaded Game Over screen. If you can’t defeat Duval when he’s nearing death, you’re going to take some major damage and get bound too. We need to get rid of Duval on this turn, or else!

This is it! Special Ability, Activate!

This is it! Special Ability, Activate!

The long battle with Duval is finally over! Good work everyone!

The winner, it's you.

The winner, it’s you.

We were successful in recruiting Duval and got proof of our victory, the Handsome title!

We got Duval and a new title!

We got Duval and a new title!

Other crew combinations for this Clash!! could work too! If you were lucky enough to get Blamenco through Rare-Recruit, you could swap him for Lucci and use his slot swapping abilities. You might even get more STR slots as well! Fossa would work as a good substitute for Arlong as his ATK boosting abilites are quite exceptional and plays a great role in the STR-Type crew! If the level of your Merry Go ship is maxed, it would be a great addition for its ATK boost! Have fun trying different crews and see what works for you!
