Fight! Sand-Sand Band!

The Sand Sand Band have come to Extra Island and we can only assume they didn’t get permission from their parents first. They may be small, but they have big aspirations!

Today, we’re bringing you a strategy to take on the highest difficulty of Fight! Sand-Sand Band!, Courageous!

The heat hurts

The heat hurts

Just as you would expect from Alabasta, the Intense Heat will hurt you. It will hurt you in the form of Map Damage and once every two turns. We’ve seen Map Damage in the form of Sandstorms and Lightning before, but this is our first encounter with Intense Heat. To counter the damage from the Intense Heat, we set off with a captain that could give us a 4x HP boost.

Alabastian soldiers will confront you right from the start and ask you to play the bad guy for the Sand Sand Band. What fun! Actually, it’s not fun when you’re pounded with heat damage every two turns in addition to the onslaught of attacks from the enemies with quite the high ATK. The Intense Heat will do 5000 DMG to all enemies and 125 DMG to crew members. Thought you could charge your Specials on the pigs and turtles? They’ll be blasted away by the Intense Heat, poor things.

Let's play the bad guys!

Let’s play the bad guys!

Rare-Boss Cobra and Sub-Boss Kid Koza

The King of Alabasta, Cobra, may appear in one of these battles. Just like Igaram and Pell whom you can see in the background, he’s probably worried about his daughter and followed her here. His ATK isn’t too high but be warned, once his health drops below half he will boost his DEF substantially.

All hail King Cobra!

All hail King Cobra!

The kid version of Koza will come in Battle 4. He brought friends, and he is here to rid the desert of bad guys (us). There are lots of enemies here but what’s going to cause the most trouble in this battle is at the end of the second turn, Koza is going to use his Let’s go, Sand Sand Band! Special. This will boost all enemies’ ATK power by 5. Let’s stop this from happening by defeating Koza first.

Sub-Boss Koza

Sub-Boss Koza

Vivi, Koza, and their patterns

The kid version of Vivi and 5 of her little friends, or both the Sand-Sand Band leader and sub-leader may show up in Battle 7. Vivi will use her Princess’s Love: Heal Every Turn! healing her crew members for 20,000 HP every turn. This isn’t going to be easy! Koza will use the same Let’s go, Sand Sand Band! Special that he did in Battle 4 at the end of the second turn, so let’s get rid of him quickly cause we can’t deal with STR boosted enemies! Let’s use our Specials here too, if we can.

Hold back the enemy!

Hold back the enemy!

We managed to take Koza out of the picture! But unfortunately, at the end of the first turn Vivi used her Bewitching Eyes: Despair! sealing our Zoro’s Captain Ability (Doubles DEX characters’ ATK and HP) for 2 turns. Elizabeth’s Special only reduces Despair’s effect for 1 turn, so we took quite the beating.

No Captain Ability, No Life

No Captain Ability, No Life

Thanks to White Out (Reduces damage by 50% for 3 turns), we made it out alive with just a bit of HP left! Then Vivi had to go and use her Vivi’s Precious Guard and ruin all our fun.

So Damage. Much Game Over.

Our High ATK focused Crew

With all the QCK type enemies we meet in this quest along with the Map Damage to add to that, we first tried a DEX type based party focused on high HP. After getting totally obliterated, we decided that wasn’t the way to do things here. Sure, with all that HP we could easily beat the Sub-Boss Koza and those battles in between, but what we lacked against Kobra and the boss battle was real ATK power. This is what we put together:

Our High ATK focused Crew

Our High ATK focused Crew

We went with Hawkeyes Mihawk for our Captain and Friend Captain. With two Mihawks, Slashers can get up to a whopping 6.25x boost in ATK! We dont have much time before the enemies start making their moves in Battle 7, so we added Mr. 3 Extra Special Candelabra as his Special can delay all enemies by one turn, giving us that precious time we need. Changing his own slot to INT and allowing you to swap slots freely 1 time,Buggy Roger Pirates will play quite a useful role here in our crew. It may be difficult, but if you manage to save up enough for his Special and use him well, Daz Bones, Convict Mr. 1 will turn the battle for you as he can reduce damage taken by 30% and boost Slasher characters’ ATK by 1.25x for 2 turns.

It’s time to recruit those brave kids of Alabasta!

You’re going to be faced with a lot of powerful enemies. Do what you can to charge your Specials and take minimum damage.

Ready? Fight!

Ready? Fight!

Take advantage of Shooter Group Leader‘s Bind INT! if and when he uses it in Battle 3. It’ll allow you to easily charge your Specials!

Battle 3 and we're already drenched in sweat

Battle 3 and we’re already drenched in sweat

Make Koza your first priority in Battle 4, but keep your eyes out for enemies about to attack and get rid of them before they do. Try to knock out as many enemies as you can as fast as you can, and of course, take minimum damage.

Finally! The battle with Vivi!

Koza didn’t show up this time but even on her own, Vivi can be quite the annoying fly. Allow her to pull off her Bewitching Eyes:Despair! and it’s all over. At the same time, her crew hits pretty hard so we need to watch out for them as well. First thing we need to do is use Mr. 3′s Extra Special Candelabra, Delaying the enemy for one turn, and then use Buggy’s Chop-Chop Harpoon to get our slots in place. From there, take down as much of Vivi and her crew as you can.

Now go for Vivi!...it is way too hot for this

Now go for Vivi!…it is way too hot for this

We managed take out Vivi and one other enemy. We are goners if we get double teamed here with the remaining HP we have. Let’s shoot for Perfects and hope to take down at least 3 more of the enemy! It’s do-or-die!

Whatever you do, don't miss!

Whatever you do, don’t miss!

The gods blessed us with RCV slots and we were able to heal while finishing off the rest of the Sand-Sand Band!

Victory is ours!

Victory is ours!

We recruited Vivi and got a new title for our victory! Sand-Sand Band!

Yay! New Title!

Yay! New Title!

It seems we could get through this battle with a number of other crews as well. Try putting Dark King Rayleigh in as your Captain or Friend Captain and add Hawkeyes Mihawk or Roronoa Zoro Ashura Ichibugin. Build a crew with other strong DEX or INT types and this battle may not be a problem for you. Try it out and see what works!
