Perv-Salom’s Very Manly Adventure

Have you taken on Absalom on Extra Island yet? This week we’re bringing you a strategy for the his highest difficulty, Super-Perv.

Even More Slot Restrictions

In the grand tradition of Perona’s Wonder Garden, we’re bringing you another adventure with slot restrictions. This time, the only slots that will be appearing are [QCK], [DEX], [PSY], and [RCV]. We’re not quite sure what to expect on this adventure, so we’ve decided to just jump in and take a look…

We're not letting that pervert get his hands on our Nami-Swan!!

We’re not letting that pervert get his hands on our Nami-Swan!!

The first battle brings to mind the “Happiness Punch!” from the end of Alabasta. Unfortunately, Nami lets us know we won’t be getting any Happiness Punch this time.

Vanishing Sound Effects

Not being able to see our sound effects changes everything.

Not being able to see our sound effects changes everything.

Absalom and the General Zombies will be appearing as sub-bosses. Absalom’s Special, Clear-Clear Fruit makes it’s first appearance here, turning our attack sound effects invisible. Timing our taps is going to be pretty difficult when we can’t see the sound effects, and the invisibility is going to last for 999 turns! We aren’t too good at getting the timing right without that reference point, ourselves, so it seems Absalom’s found our weak point.

As usual, not doing too well on our first attempt...

As usual, not doing too well on our first attempt…

We somehow make it to the boss, but we’re messing up chains left and right, so we’re hardly dealing any damage at this point! Plus, Absalom’s Haste + a little something extra erases some of the advantage we managed to buy with Golden Pound.

After our ignominious defeat, we take the opportunity to head over to the Training Forest and buff up our timing skills.

Our Anti-Absalom Crew

Let’s build off the lessons we learned last time and the fruits of our trip to the Training Forest to rework our crew!!

First, let's train with our new team!

First, let’s train with our new team!

For our Captain and Friend Captain, we cold use either Rob Lucci Dock One Sawyer and Treenail Specialist and Black Cage Hina, but personally we want to be able to use Taciturn Combo twice, so we’re going to go with Lucci for both.

Kaku‘s Special, Mountain Wind will let us amplify our slot effects, and we can lock in those slots for a turn with Hina’s Kimono Sleeve Cage. That will give us a two turn window to deal a whole lot of damage. Absalom is going to turn all of our slots to TND on his second turn, and if we wanted to focus on Recovery, Lulu’s Red Hot Shipwright’s Soul would be a good choice, but we’re going to go with Naginata Billions‘ Special to turn all of our slots to QCK instead!

Will all of our training pay off? Let’s find out!

We’re going to be careful to set aside a bit of meat as we buy time to charge our Specials. When Absolom and General Zombie appear in the fifth Battle, we’ll be in a pretty tight spot if we haven’t managed to save ourselve some meat for healing.

Save as much meat as possible!

Save as much meat as possible!

When General Zombie is on his last legs, he’s going to heal himself, but if you’ve managed to keep enough meat to do the same, you can turn it into an opportunity to buy more time.

We died fairly often when we got to this point.

Our next encounter with Absalom…

At last the time has come for our climactic rematch. In order to protect the honor of all bathers on Extra Island, we cannot afford to lose this fight!

Perv-Salom Appears.

Perv-Salom Appears.

Absalom is going to deal aroun 5,000 damage with his normal attacks, so let’s pick our moment and go ahead with Golden Pound. Next, when he flips our slots to TND, let’s use our own Special to flip them all back to QCK!

This looks like a job for Naginata Billions!

This looks like a job for Naginata Billions!

Starting now, we’re going to need to beat this in two turns or we’ll get flattened when he hits low HP and starts lashing out. Let’s set the stage with Mountain Wind and Kimono Sleeve Cage!

Looks like our training paid off, after all!

Looks like our training paid off, after all!

We beat him pretty soundly, but didn’t quite manage to finish him off! Absalom is going to use Haste + a little something extra!! to power up. He’ll be dealing 6,000 damage every turn! This is the exact moment we were saving our two Taciturn Combos for, and it’s enough to send him flying!

Glad we had that ace up our sleeve.

Glad we had that ace up our sleeve.

This time we lucked out and got General Zombie and Absalom both!

I wonder how useful they'll be?

I wonder how useful they’ll be?

Plus we got a new title, Perv!

Just the thing a gentleman needs.

There are many different crew configurations you can use to beat Absalom, so try out some of your own. The important thing is to really know your timing and have someone who can help you with your slots. The Training forest is a great place to practice timing your attacks with the sound effects, so make sure to get plenty of practice!
