Recommended Crew Lineups

Choosing your crew lineup is the key to victory! Here we’ll recommend various lineups depending on your progress on your adventure. Check it out if you find yourself stuck.

The early stages – The basics of putting together a crew!

(STR) type based crew.

It would be tough to fill out a complete crew with powerful characters in the beginning of the game, so let’s think rationally about battle basics and build our crew from there.

If you aren’t able to get a fairly powerful crew member using Rare Recruit, you should go ahead and make Monkey D. Luffy, Gum-Gum Pistol your Captain. Do your best to keep the other members of the crew the same Type as Luffy. You’ll want to give preference to characters with higher attack power, but watch the cost and try to avoid heading out to a quest without a full five member crew. Even if you need to use a character with lower stats or a different type, keeping a full crew will give you higher bonuses from chains and more chances to grab meat during battle.

There’s one more thing you should keep in mind. The chain bonuses will be highest at the end of a chain, so character with higher attack power should attack later in the chain. However feel free to order your stronger characters first if you need more practice to get used to the tap timing. Now let’s look at a few lineups based on the principles outlined above.

A STR-based lineup.

A STR-based lineup.

・Captain: Monkey D. Luffy, Gum-Gum Pistol
・Fighter Group Cabin Boy Red Pirates
・Slasher Group Cabin Boy Red Pirates
・Stabber Group Cabin Boy Red Pirates
・Shooter Group Cabin Boy Red Pirates
・Friend Captain: Monkey D. Luffy, Gum-Gum Pistol

We’ve kept all the character types the same. At first glance you might not think this is a very useful crew lineup, however, you’ll note that with the 2.25x attack bonus from the Captain and Friend Captain, the Red Pirates’ Fighter Group Cabin Boy has a higher attack power than a Zoro of the same level. This is a pretty good lineup for early on in the game when your Pirate Level is low and it’s easy to go over cost when assembling your crew.

In addition, this lineup will also allow you to use a Tandem attack, which might prove useful in stages with a lot of enemies.

A type based crew. (DEX)

The boss for Syrup Village, Kuro, is a QCK Type. Dealing damage with STR types like Luffy might be difficult, so let’s switch to a DEX type crew captained by Roronoa Zoro. Changing the overall type of your crew lineup can be a big help when you find yourself up against enemies of a disadvantageous character type. If you absolutely can’t get together a crew of the same type, substitute one of the Straw Hat Pirates characters, who have relatively high HP and low Cost.

After Extra Island – Preparing for Arlong Park.

Advanced (STR) Type-based lineup

Even if you were lucky enough to get your hands on some powerful crew members, it’s likely that you won’t be able to go into battle with all of them because of the cost. If you should happen to get your hands on a Red Armor Crab early on, it’s high attack and low cost make it a good addition to a crew. Once you’re able to go to Extra Island, it will be a lot easier to get one. In the Scissor Cavern, part of Extra Island Friday Quests, finding Red Armor Crabs and Red Helmet Crabs will be especially easy!

Advanced (STR) Type-based lineup

・Captain: Monkey D. Luffy Gum-Gum Bazooka
・Group Crew Red Pirates
・Stabber Group Crew Red Pirates
・Red Armor Crab
・Usopp
・Friend Captain: Monkey D. Luffy Gum-Gum Bazooka

Usopp joins your crew after Syrup Village and has two possible evolutions. Each of them require different evolver characters to evolve. Evolving Usopp into Usopp, Golden Pound will take more evolver characters, but it’s worth the extra effort.

By this point you should be finding it easier to acquire resources for Power Up and Evolution, and to use them to get new characters.

I can’t beat Arlong!

Even if you haven’t had good luck with Rare Recruit, you can still beat the boss of Arlong Park Chapter15, Enraged Arlong with a little planning! Let’s take a look at a possible lineup.

Gum-Gum Bazooka + Golden Pound

First of all, you’ll want to make sure you’ve Evolved your Captain, Luffy, into Monkey D. Luffy, Gum-Gum Bazooka. If you make good use of Extra Island, you should be able to get all the resources you need. If possible, also Evolve Usopp into Usopp, Golden Pound. Try to make the rest of your crew STR types, and as powerful as possible. This may be difficult if you can’t rely on crew from Rare Recruit. We recommend the Red Striped Dragon. It can’t be evolved, but it starts with 500 HP and 500 Attack. Try for one on the Extra Island Thursday Quest, Red Dragon Sanctuary!

Gum-Gum Bazooka + Golden Pound

・Monkey D. Luffy, Gum-Gum Bazooka
・Usopp, Golden Pound
・Red Striped Dragon
・Fighter Group Crew, Red Pirates
・Knuckle Punk, Black Cat Pirates
・Friend Captain: Monkey D. Luffy, Gum-Gum Bazooka

Knuckle Punk, Black Cat Pirates and Fighter Group Crew, Red Pirates were only chosen for having the STR type and a reasonably high Attack power, so if you have a stronger STR type character, it would be better to use them instead. Trying to defeat Arlong with this crew still might be a challenge. You won’t have to level up almost all the characters near MAX level. Experienced players can probably win with the crew members at a lower level.

If you’re not quite there yet, you’ll have an easy time Powering Up your characters with resources you get from the Extra Island Guerilla Quest, Black Turtle Explosion!.

Boost your Fighter-Class characters with Chef Zeff as Captain!

Once you have Chef Zeff, go ahead and try a crew of Fighter Class characters with him as the captain. If you can manage to get Zeff as a Friend Captain as well, you should be able to crush even Arlong with your overwhelming attack power. Chef Zeff will drop when you defeat Zeff in Chapter 3 of the Baratie Quest. Try to aim for it when Baratie’s drop rates are doubled in order to get him to join your crew!

・Captain: Chef Zeff
・Monkey D. Luffy, Gum-Gum Bazooka
・Sanji, Plastic Surgery Shot
・Usopp, Golden Pound
・Fighter Group Crew, Red Pirates
・Friend Captain: Chef Zeff

Monkey D. Luffy, Gum-Gum Bazooka and Sanji, Plastic Surgery Shot, are two of the best Fighter Class characters you can have by the time you fight Arlong, and are definite additions to this crew. Usopp, Golden Pound will let you delay your enemies, and the last member should be a Fighter Class character with the highest attack power possible. If you can get Chef Zeff as your Friend Captain, too, you’ll have an amazing 6.5x bonus on your Fighter Class characters’ attack power. This is an overwhelmingly powerful crew!

Aiming for Expert-Level Skill!

Once you pass Loguetown after Arlong Park, you should start mastering the use of Specials, and the use of type and Captain Abilities to raise attack power. Let’s lay out a few crews that will help you go on to achieve a higher level from this point on!

Roronoa Zoro, Ashura Ichibugin – DEX Crew

Using Roronoa Zoro, Ashura Ichibugin as your Captain, let’s put together a DEX type crew. His Captain Ability doubles both HP and Attack power, and you can quadruple them if you get him for your Friend Captain as well.

Roronoa Zoro, Ashura Ichibugin - DEX Crew

Roronoa Zoro, Ashura Ichibugin – DEX Crew

・Captain: Roronoa Zoro, Ashura Ichibugin
・Smoker the White Hunter
・Six-Sword Hachi
・Chef Zeff
・Tony Tony Chopper, Guard Point
・Friend Captain: Roronoa Zoro, Ashura Ichibugin

We’ve chosen powerful DEX type characters to fill out the crew. The crew is balanced towards attack power, but Tony Tony Chopper‘s Special, Guard Point and Smoker‘s White Out will give you a good complement of defensive options.

Red-Haired Shanks – PSY Crew

Shanks’ Captain Ability gives a 2.5x bonus to PSY type characters’ attack power. With his own extremely high attack power and HP, you’ll want to make sure Shanks is a member of your crew. When you consider the fact that PSY type attacks aren’t weak against any other type, this lineup becomes even more appealing.

Red-Haired Shanks - PSY Crew

Red-Haired Shanks – PSY Crew

・Captain: Red-Haired Shanks
・Princess Vivi
・Mohji & Richie
・Tony Tony Chopper, Heavy Point
・Usopp, Golden Pound
・Friend Captain: Red-Haired Shanks

Try to raise everyone’s level as high as possible to improve their fighting power.

Enraged Arlong, Slasher Class Crew

This time we’ve put together a crew of Slasher class characters with Enraged Arlong, Shark on Tooth as the Captain. His Captain Ability doubles the attack power of any Slasher class characters in the crew. There are a lot of very powerful Slasher characters, so you should be able to muster an awesome amount of destructive power.

Enraged Arlong, Slasher Class Crew

Enraged Arlong, Slasher Class Crew

・Captain: Enraged Arlong, Shark on Tooth
・Roronoa Zoro, Ashura Ichibugin
・Red-Haired Shanks
・Kuro of a Hundred Plans
・Mr. 3 Extra Special Candelabra
・Friend Captain: Enraged Arlong, Shark on Tooth

Try substituting other Slasher class characters from the characters you’ve been able to recruit. Mr. 3 Extra Special Candelabra has a fairly high attack power among Slasher characters, and his Special will allow you to delay your enemies’ turn! He makes an excellent addition to this crew, in case you find yourself in a pinch.

So, what do you think? Some of the crew lineups outlined here might be a bit difficult to put together or evolve, but they’re guaranteed to make for powerful combinations! Please use this page as a reference as you work towards creating your own unique powerhouse crew.
