Whitebeard Pirate Crew! War Buddies

Whitebeard Pirate Crew! is now available on Extra Island! Has everyone give it a shot yet? Today, we are bringing you the guide for this quest’s highest difficulty, Whitebeard Pirate Crew! War Buddies

Reduced Special Charge Time for Driven characters

Like the previous quest, Uncover the Truth! Revolutionary Army, we’ll get reduced Special charge time for characters of a certain type. And this time around it’ll be Driven characters, so let’s get a crew to make good use of that.

Type Advantage

Type Advantage

Our Slot-Changing, ATK-Boosting, Driven Crew

This is the crew we came up with to defeat and recruit the New World pirates who were reunited by a legendary pirate!

Our Slot-Changing, Driven Crew!

Our Slot-Changing, Driven Crew!

We chose Hannyabal Impel Down Under-Warden as our Captain, and Master Caesar as our Friend Captain. They’ll boost Driven character’s ATK by more than 5x. However, Hannyabal’s Captain Ability will redirect the ATK boost to Striker characters if our HP falls below 30%. This means we need to try to keep our HP high. It’s good to know that Caesar’s Special, which poisons the enemy, will connect with Hannyabal’s Special that increases the damage dealt to poisoned enemies. This’ll be useful for boss battles.

To start off our crewmate roster, we chose Smoker the White Hunter and Roronoa Zoro Jack the Ripper. Smoker’s Special reduces damage by 50% for 3 turns and Zoro’s Special delays the enemy. Both can be used to help preserve our HP. We’ll also bring Lao G. Donquixote Pirates, and Impostor Straw Hat Pirates. Lao G.’s Special changes all slots (including [BLOCK]) to [G] and deals heavy random non-Type damage to all enemies, and Impostor Straw Hat Pirates’ Special will change slots to specific ones. Which means that we need to be careful of the order of our crew in order to make full use of their Special. Specifically, on the left side from the top, Caesar (Friend Captain), Zoro, Smoker, and on the right side from the top, Hannyabal, Impostor Straw Hat Pirates, and Lao G. Match up those slots and deal some serious damage!

For our ship, we went with Merry Go for that extra 1.2x ATK boost you get if level 6 or over.

Charge Specials along the way

Thanks to the special conditions for this quest, our crew has reduced Special charge time, but we need those Specials ready to go early since we’ll encounter bosses along the way. Let’s charge up on the Turtles and Pigs. But our HP needs to stay high so we can use Hannyabal’s Captain Ability.

Keep our HP high

Keep our HP high

We may run into the DeCalvan Brothers along the way

In most cases, you’ll run into the DeCalvan Brothers along the way. The earliest you’ll encounter them will be Battle 3. The DeCalvan Brothers will preemptively attack us consecutively; damage at a certain percentage and damage that is fixed. Our almost full HP has been dropped to around half.

Our Driven Characters are buffed

Our Driven Characters are buffed

We can’t afford to take any more damage. We immediately use Smoker’s Special, White Out, to prepare survive DeCalvan Brothers’ attacks. As backup, even if Smoker’s Special isn’t charged, we still have Zoro’s Special, 108 Pound Phoenix : Reaper, to delay the enemy attack. We were able to get their HP down to near half on the first turn. We may be able to defeat them on the second turn, but the DeCalvan Brothers, at critical HP, will use a special to nullify our Friend Captain’s effects and randomly Bind one of our crewmembers. It’s best if we can avoid getting hit by this Special. Smoker’s Special is effective for 3 turns, so if you’re not confident, try to get their HP down to a little before critical and then finish them off on the next turn.

If you can’t finish them off here, use Zoro’s Special

Rare-Encounter: Whitey Bay

There’s a chance that Whitey Bay may appear along the way. Whitey Bay will preemptively set up a Timing Barrier that’s effective until we land 1 GOOD.

Tap Zoro on GOOD timing

Tap Zoro on GOOD timing

Whitey Bay, when her HP is below 50%, will use a Special to make Tap Timing harder and halve our Chain Multiplier Boost. It’ll be difficult to deal major damage now, but we’ll continue on while making sure we get the Tap Timing right as much as possible.
As a side note, if you run into Whitey Bay, you won’t encounter the DeCalvan Brothers, so you can take your time and defeat her with Smoker and Zoro’s Special.

She’s got high HP, so use Specials to survive

Final Boss: Squard

Squard is waiting for us on the final 7th battle. Squard will preemptively use a Special that randomly changes our slots to [BLOCK] or [BOMB] slots and can’t be KO’d for 3 turns.

The slots we had are gone

The slots we had are gone

First, we use Lao G.’s slot-changing Special, Battle Insurance Fist, to get rid of those [BLOCK] and [BOMB] slots. After that, Caesar’s Special, Gas Robe. Driven characters got an ATK boost and we also succeeded in poisoning Squard. He can’t be KO’d for 3 turns because of his Special, but can be KO’d from poison and damage-dealing Specials. Our crew is set up to take down Squard within 3 turns. In addition to this, Hannyabal’s Special, Hell Demon Rush, will boost our damage dealt to poisoned enemies.

Readying Attack: 1

Readying Attack: 1

We won’t use Impostor Straw Hat Pirates’ Special just yet. If things go well, we can try defeating Squard on the first turn. But when his HP drops below half, he’ll use a Special to heal himself, remove our favorable effects, and get 1 turn Haste. Caesar and Hannyabal’s effects are still active on the second turn. Carve Squard’s HP down to a little before half at turn 1, and use Impostor Straw Hat Pirates’ Special, Pirate Posers, to read up our slots and then attack at turn 2.

Readying Attack: 2

Our attack got most of Squard’s HP, and the poison damage finished him off!

So what other crews can lead you to victory in this battle?

If possible, it may be good to have Shiki the Golden Lion Golden Lion Pirates as the Captain or Friend Captain. Shiki’s Captain Ability will double Driven characters’ ATK and HP, which will help in making a high HP crew. Additionally, his Special Lion’s Threat: Imperial Earth Bind, changes Driven characters’[BLOCK][G][BOMB] slots into the character’s own slot, which is useful against Squard’s preemptive slot-change. Stack this with Donquixote Doflamingo Warlord of the Sea’s Special, Overheat, that boosts slot effects, to deal serious damage. Diamante Donquixote Pirates’ Special, Release: Death Enjambre, deals damage at the end of the turn. Like Caesar’s poison, Squard can be defeated within 3 turns using this Special.
